In the small farming community of Gettysburg, Pennsylvania, fate brought the Union and Confederate armies to fight the largest battle ever fought on this side of the earth. Between the battle lines, many of the citizens, trapped by the fight, became heroes, War of 1812 vet John Burns walked to the battlefield and fought with the Iron Brigade, Ginnie Wade baked bread for the men of the Union Army, Tillie Pierce cared for the wounded, and others took incredible actions to help the Union army toward its victory.
