Can't your 12-year-old play the Mendelssohn Violin Concerto yet? Dr Shinichi Suzuki , the Japanese violin teacher, believes that we all start life with a musical potential which most of us fail to develop. His pupils - some 15,000 have learned by his method in Japan alone - start the violin at 2 or 3 years old and, with the help of their mothers, are encouraged to acquire their musical skill in the same way they acquire the skill of speech. The results, as this film shows, can be startling.
