In her early twenties she reads Martin Luther’s work and discovers a whole new way of thinking. She escapes with some of her fellow nuns from the cloister, reaches Wittenberg without legal position, without income, and shunned by her family. In Wittenberg, she meets Martin Luther. Katharina decides to marry the reformer and as his wife becomes the respected “manager” of his vast household, an equal conversational partner and mother to their children. Together they face public and crises in their life. The death of their oldest daughter Magdalena tests their relationship. Only when Katharina rediscovers her courage she finds her way back into life.
