Year 1950. Fates of deported families intersects in distant settlement in Siberia. One day a gang of convicts escape and sometime later murder Khomich, the village idiot. Authorities suspect Andzha, old Kalmyk man, and arrest him, leaving his grandson Lidzhuha all alone against the world.
