At three Danish S&M parlors, we watch couples engage in sadomasochistic play. In voice-overs, the participants talk about what draws them to the roles they take on. They reflect on connections between sex and aggression, submission and release, and pain and ecstasy. One talks about exhibitionism; another describes her fascination with the opportunity to be evil. Words such as power, conflict, challenge, and beauty dominate.
