Gunnar Carlman has heard about the beautiful girls in Småland and takes the train to Vimmerby to meet them himself. He gets a job as a farm-hand at the mean-spirited farmer Jönsson`s farm. It doesn`t take long before he has had enough of Jönsson`s anger and gets a new job at another farm, Svalnäs. It is owned by the young and handsome Christina Larsson. But she is far from a sweet and innocent woman.
