The film is about the sufferings of an outsider or non-conformist in the "gemutlichen" Ottakring (Ottakring is a suburb of Vienna) with its bourgeois and new-wine-taverns milieu who, through his piety and his critical comments, incurs the displeasure of the population, the police and administration.
