Pretty teenager Elisabeth (Vivian Hanjohr) is the daughter of a leading Party official. Her moods seem to be dominated by boredom and lazy disaffection. One morning her father drops her off at school, and that is the last time she sees him alive. There is a funeral, mother and daughter comfort each other, and they share memories. Trying to move on, in a half-hearted sort of way Elisabeth acquires herself a boyfriend. The story (such as it is) reaches its counterpoint when the Party organises an anti-NATO demonstration where attendance for the young people is mandatory. Elisabeth as usual is bored; her high point is making goo-goo noises at a baby. But when she is entrusted with the Party flag to take home alone she stubbornly defends it as if it was her virtue itself. And that’s basically all that happens.
