Script to this film is based on a short novel written by Jerzy Andrzejewski - the same author who wrote "Ashes and Diamonds". Wajda want to do "Holy Week" for years. First version of script was made by Andrzej Żuławski (polish director) and Jerzy Andrzejewski in 1968, but topic of Jews in Poland in this time was highly unwanted (infulence of government). Wajda sold rights to script to German producers. After years he can back to his project and complete it in year 1995. Movie action is set in times of Warsaw Ghetto Uprising. Young Jewess is found by Gestapo but avoid concentration camp or dead, because she has a money to corrupt agents. She try to find safe place in Warsaw and accidentaly meet her ex-boyfriend, who propose her shelter in house when he live with her wife. Soon presence of Jewess in Polish tenement house will lead people who live in it to undertake hard moral choices...
