Leftover follows Chul and his family adapting to their new life as refugees of the famine-struck and oppressive regime of North Korea. Chul has sustained severe back injuries from the torture he suffered, however he does not have many options to support his family besides working at a construction site. The memory of a previous life is all but a blur to Michael, Chul's 7 year old son. After being teased by his classmates about his Korean cuisine, Michael begins to return home with his lunches untouched. Not knowing why his son refuses to finish his meals, Chul goes to extreme measures to teach him the lesson.
