Gústav Geir Bollason

古斯塔夫·盖尔·博拉松,Visual artist and filmmaker Gústav Geir Bollason (1966, Iceland) studied art at the Icelandic College of Art and Crafts (now Iceland University of the Arts) in Reykjavík and the Hungarian University of Fine Arts in Budapest. Bollason lived in Paris for some years but returned to the Icelandic fishing village of his birth in 1999, where he manages the local art space Verksmiðjan. Although remote, Verksmiðjan has gained attention and accolades especially for its film programmes, video installations and experimental music workshops. His work, in which he uses film, installations, drawings and found objects, centres around themes of memory, reality and representation. He also uses landscape narratives and works with local residents around the northern Icelandic coasts to explore his surroundings and environment. His first film Carcasse was a collaboration with French artist Clémentine Roy. Mannvirki (2023) was selected for IFFR 2023.
