Dick Battin，Archie Richard Battin was born in Buffalo New York on April 22, 1917. His mother, Anne Harper,was Canadian. His father, Jason Richard Battin, was born in Bloomfield Iowa. He served in World War II as a tank driver and cook and then had a series of jobs until his death, including sand blaster, trucker driver and machinist.
